Nilas Greythorn is offered power but refuses to be controlled by it, becoming a threat in a world built on obedience.Marked by a consent-bound lunar sanctum and accompanied by a Moon-Kissed Beast, he inspires fear, belief, and conflict as rumors spread. As violence rises and ancient forces awaken, Nilas faces escalating costs for choosing restraint over domination. This is a dark fantasy about preserving agency and humanity—not fulfilling destiny—and about the wars sparked by refusing power’s terms.

Set against a maritime empire that mistakes control for stability, Luna’s Kiss follows a man altered into a weapon who refuses to replace one form of domination with another.
William Fenwick, once ordinary, survives a Crown experiment that binds him to unstable lunar power and leaves him hunted after his family is killed to cover it up.Pursued by both political and religious forces, he struggles to stay human as the Moonkiss pushes him toward violence.Forced to choose between escape, resistance, and losing himself, William faces escalating costs for every decision.Luna’s Kiss is a dark fantasy about grief, imposed power, and the danger of choosing restraint.
William Fenwick answers the question at the heart of Luna’s Kiss
Can I remain myself while becoming something else?
“Most days I think the answer is no.The moon doesn't ask permission. It just… arrives. One night you're holding your boy's hand, the next you're tasting blood and hearing bones crack inside your own skin. That first shift—I clawed the dirt until my nails split, trying to hold onto the man who loved Elain's rosemary smell and Rhys's tiny laugh.I lost pieces. The way my hands shake now, the way smells hit like punches, the way rage comes up fast and hot. Those aren't the same hands that tucked my son in.But here's the part that keeps me breathing: I still choose.I can feel the beast want to run, to tear, to never look back. And I still stop.I still remember their graves.I still sail with men who trust me, even when they shouldn't.I still hear Seris's voice saying the Moonkiss isn't a sentence—it's a question. So yeah… I think you can remain yourself. Not unchanged—never unchanged—but still the one making the decisions. The beast is in the room now, but it doesn't get the chair. I do.Some nights that's enough. Some nights it's not. But I keep choosing anyway.”~ William Fenwick | Luna's Kiss

Alpha Reviews of The Heart of the Serpent
"The deliberate nature of the prose is what stands out most. It’s clear that every word, every pause, and every description was chosen with surgical precision to amplify the themes of choice and restraint. The environment feels alive—not just as a backdrop, but as a weight that the characters have to navigate."

🔷BOOK: The Heart of the Serpent : A Tale of Nilas Greythorn
🔷AUTHOR: A. S. HildebranThe Heart of the Serpent: A Tale of Nilas Greythorn surprised me in the best way. I went in expecting a dark fantasy about magic and war, but what I found was a story about choice. Nilas is marked with power, yet he does not rush to use it. That refusal shapes everything that happens next. This book feels like the beginning of something larger. It leaves you thinking and wanting more without feeling incomplete. If you enjoy fantasy that focuses on heart and inner strength instead of just action scenes, this one is worth your time.🔷RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

The Heart of the Serpent : A Tale of Nilas Greythorn
By
A. S. HildebranThis book is a powerful and emotional fantasy that feels different from the usual hero stories. Instead of a man chasing power, we meet Nilas, someone who actually refuses it. That alone made me curious. Most fantasy books show characters trying to control magic or destiny, but here we see someone trying to protect his humanity. It felt refreshing and real. This story is not loud or flashy. It is thoughtful. It makes you think about power, responsibility, and what it really means to stay true to yourself. By the end, I was not just reading about Nilas. I was rooting for him as if he were someone I personally knew.Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

📚Book: The Heart of the Serpent : A Tale of Nilas Greythorn✍️Author: A. S. Hildebran📚Review: A. S. Hildebran has written a fantasy story that felt very different to me. Usually in these kinds of books, the main character happily accepts power and becomes stronger and stronger. But Nilas is not like that. He actually questions the power given to him and does not want it to control him. I really liked that about him. It made him feel more real, like a normal person trying to do the right thing. What touched me the most was how hard it is for him to keep saying no. The world around him becomes dangerous. People are scared of him. Bad things start happening. Still, he tries to stay human and not lose himself. His bond with the Moon-Kissed Beast was also very beautiful in a quiet way. It did not feel like a master and servant relationship. It felt like two beings walking together with understanding. When I finished the book, I kept thinking about Nilas and his choices. It made me ask myself what I would do in his place. This story is not just about magic and war. It is about staying true to yourself even when it is difficult. For me, that is what made this book special and memorable.📚Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
Top reviews from IndiaAfshan khan⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Read!!Reviewed in India on 5 March 2026Nilas is a compelling protagonist because he isn’t driven by ego or ambition. His internal conflict feels authentic, and his hesitation often says more than dramatic action would. I appreciated how the story balances fantasy elements with emotional depth. The mystical aspects enhance the journey without overwhelming it.If you prefer character-driven fantasy that focuses on moral tension and personal growth, this is a rewarding read. It left me thinking about its themes long after I finished.
Keka Mondal⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.0 out of 5 starsNice story buildingReviewed in India on 7 March 2026While there’s a lot of action in the novel, that action never overshadows the central tension of the novel, which is: can refusing power be a form of power?Hildebran’s work is deeply immersive and contemplative and both world building and ideas are rich. This story will be a lasting presence long after they’ve turned the final page if you enjoy character-focused fantasy
